Our story
Chappy's is a refrigerated pickle brand from two friends who love big flavor, and one very good dog.
How it started
Chappy's started in 2020 in Somerville, Massachusetts, when Sean and Nate got tired of pickles that all tasted the same. They wanted the crunch of a deli pickle with flavors you actually remember.
So they kept it simple: fresh vegetables, chopped by hand and packed cold in small batches, with no added sugar. Then they made it interesting. Punchy dill and garlic. Peppers with a slow burn. Pickle chips that taste like ranch. A Chicago-style giardiniera that belongs on an Italian beef.
Every jar carries Bear, the dog behind the brand. Bear is warm, extremely loyal, community- and family-oriented, and shows up every day with a positive spirit and an excitement for life that Chappy's lives by.
Today Chappy's is made in Charlestown, MA, and sold at independent grocers, farmers markets, and specialty shops across New England, with more on the way.

Sean grew up in Chicago and has lived in Somerville for over a decade. With a background in art and business, he paints, wood-burns, draws and cooks. He started pickling during quarantine to share food with friends and family, and his Chicago-style giardiniera brought a taste of home to Massachusetts. Chappy's is his way of bringing people joy through food and building closer ties to the Somerville community.

Nate grew up in Boston and cares about great food, and the systems and cultures behind it. He has an MBA and works in finance helping small food businesses grow. At Chappy's he does a bit of everything, from making pickles to running the stand at local farmers markets. He and Sean are neighbors in Somerville, which makes taste-testing easy.

Raised in Medford and now living in Somerville as a fourth-generation native, Mallory is a foodie at heart and passionate about food access in her community. She works on strategy and growth for women's health and nutrition at Google. At Chappy's, she's focused on scaling the business while keeping its local, community-first roots.
Mascot & muse
Sean and Mallory's pup Bear is an Alaskan Malamute mix and, by most accounts, the fluffiest dog in Somerville. Bear loves walks, naps and belly rubs, and is still determined to catch a squirrel, just to prove it can be done. Favorite food: chicken.
